Sphingosine kinase (SPHK) is an important enzyme in the sphingolipid metabolic pathway. SPHKs phosphorylate sphingolipid D-erythro-sphingosine to yield sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P). To date, two isoforms of SPHK, SPHK1 and SPHK2, have been identified and characterized from mammalian cells.1,2 SKs, through the formation of S1P, have been implicated in a diverse range of cellular processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, calcium homeostasis, angiogenesis, and vascular maturation.3 Thus SPHKs are potential therapeutic targets for the control of cancer, inflammation, and other diseases.4,3WARNING This product is not for human or veterinary use.
